"La Reina del Sur"

Using acrylic and aerosol paints, Retna and El Mac collaborate to produce ''La Reina del Sur" (Queen of the South)

About the Artists:
RETNA became just as notorious for his ornate painting technique as his timeless style: he used paintbrushes mixed with the traditional spray can. Many of his pieces synthesize the line between fine art and graffiti, between power and opposition, between tradition and advancement, between the past and future.

His work merges photography with graffiti style and paint, time with color, couture with street culture, the spiritual with the sensual, and fluidity with grit.

El Mac focuses on creating more murals, painting photorealistic canvases, creating stained glass pieces, and evolving his unique brushwork style. Drawing inspiration from the surrounding Mexican & Chicano culture of the American Southwest, religious art, pin-up art, graffiti, and a wide range of classic artists including Caravaggio, Mucha, and Vermeer, he began painting with acrylics as well as painting graffiti in the early.

Chapter 39: Middle East

With vast sections of the Middle East marred by violence and struggle, many Westerners view the region as a chaotic, lawless land. Without delving into the West’s role in the chaos, most would agree that popular Western opinion of the Middle East is overwhelmingly negative, and often informed by what is covered in the mainstream media. While portions of the Middle East are embroiled in serious conflicts, the region is also home to some of the oldest and richest cultures in the world.

Guest curated by Mohammad Dagman, Frank Book Chapter 39 presents a unique view of the Middle East, with an emphasis on Arabic culture. Stories will range from a little-known though magnificent ancient city carved into rocks in Saudi Arabia, Arabic tags found on New York City streets, high-end auto technicians in Kuwait, professional athletes, poets, skaters, notable militants, and much more. Frank151 dived directly into the heart of the Arab world, providing a never-before-seen look into Arabic thought, art, literature, and trends.

Chapter 41: The Seventh Letter

The Seventh Letter is an army of artistic individuals with roots not just in graffiti, but also in fine art, tattoo, graphic design, sculpture, photography, and music. Based in Los Angeles, The Seventh Letter’s tentacles have spread around the world to cities including San Francisco, Atlanta, Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, Jersey City, London, Paris, Milan, Naples, Budapest, Tokyo, Cologne, Seoul, and Bangkok.

Frank Book Chapter 41: The Seventh Letter features the world’s most notorious art collective, showcasing not only the crew’s art, but also the individual members’ interests and personal archives.

Then...

Now...

"We were like those who had climbed a mountain and reached the top. When we looked down we still wanted to go higher to realise our goals. Despite all the achievements [within the UAE Federation], we still have an ambition for more. That is my way of looking at things.

No matter how many buildings, foundations, schools and hospitals we build, or how many bridges we raise, all these are material entities. The real spirit behind the progress is the human spirit, the able man with his intellect and capabilities.

I am not imposing change on anyone. That is tyranny. All of us have our opinions, and these opinions can change. Sometimes we put all opinions together, and then extract from them a single point of view. This is our democracy."
