Whatever you are be a good one. - Abraham Lincoln

Just Be

On the road to the riches, don’t forget to stop to take pictures
Cause life ain’t about where you finish, but
what you’ve learned along the way

With the glass half empty at least you know you’re not thirsty
Try to see it for
what it is
Really half full now take a sip
And as it trickles down let it wash away any doubts
In your mind
& you'll be fine

Don’t think real joy is in position or money
Don’t compare your life to somebody else that you don’t know
Just what they’re going through unless you walk a mile in their shoes
Don’t be blind, the sun shines on everybody

I know that sometimes life can throw a curve
But you gotta keep on swinging hard
It’s the only way to knock one out the park
And if it doesn’t make it over the wall
The only way you strike-out is if you don’t swing at all

Collateral Damage

Carelessness leads to losses
much that we can't handle
genocides, or mass murders
souls we've yet to account for
what good is good when intent has no face to alter
our neglect reflects every aspect of our value for respect
we grope hope till it elopes into its deeper meaning and floats
away in dismay halfway astray
we are the cause despite the laws we've fashioned
to protect the helpless across the atlas
& blur the harshness of reality with eros and compassion
through mediocre lies,
we build bridges for conquest
amidst fears we kindle in our brothers
we speak of democracy to bury sins
we call for retribution to wounds
we tore open in the wars for freedom
and lest we can't remember names
we label lives lost as
collateral damage

Your Revolution (Remix)

Sarah Jones

History repeats itself over...and over...

Look at the American Revolution in 1776, that revolution was for what? For land. Why did they want land? Independence. How was it carried out? Bloodshed. The French Revolution, what was it based on? The Landless against the Landlord. What was it for? Land. How did they get it? Bloodshed. The Russian Revolution what was it based on? Land. The Landless against the Landlord. How did they bring it about? Bloodshed. You haven't got a revolution that doesn't involve bloodshed.

Push

They take pictures of climbers at the top of the mountain. They're smiling. Ecstatic. Triumphant. They don't take pictures along the way 'cause who wants to remember the rest of it?! We push ourselves because we have to, not because we like it. The relentless climb, the pain and anguish of taking it to the next level...nobody takes pictures of that. Nobody wants to remember. We just wanna remember the view from the top. The breath-taking moment at the edge of the world.

INT. Women's day...

"Every day, women move mountains. It is an insult to have an international women's day"

Millions of women around the world are feted on International Women's Day but for Waris Dirie, the Somali nomad turned supermodel, the idea is absurd.

So they believe...

Officials in the Aqsa foundation that caters for Muslim holy shrines in occupied Palestine have unveiled that the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) was secretly digging a tunnel under the Aqsa Mosque that jeopardizes its foundations.
Wonder how they did it?

Simple. Distract us with media, Gaza invasion...appointing a black president just to tip the scale. & well, we fell for it. They have been planning this for YEARS. It's only the beginning.

How many of you know what the real Masjid Al-Aqsa looks like? No...it's not the golden domed mosque...see where I'm going with this?

The Great Green Wall of the Sahara

Ever heard of the Great Green Wall?

Concerns about the rapid southern spread of the Sahara desert have prompted African nations to build a wall – out of trees.

The Sahara has been moving south at a rate of almost a square kilometer a year, consuming villages and wiping out agricultural lands. Slowing the desertification has become a huge priority — and a huge community effort.

International aid groups are helping build community gardens, institute new irrigation techniques, and teach sustainable farming. Projects are especially successful in the areas of the Sahara, like northern Burkina Faso, where new farming techniques are taking advantage of increased rainfall due to climate change.

The biggest project to date is the Green Wall for the Sahara Initiative. The $3-million, two-year initial phase will plant a belt of trees 7,000-kilometers long and 15 kilometers wide, and was formally approved at the Community of the Sahel-Saharan States in Benin last month.

The African Union says future phases will plant trees from Mauritania to Djibouti in two parallel belts, creating a strip of protected topsoil for high-yield farming. Nigeria has launched its own complimentary Desert-to-Food Program.

The AU hopes the Green Wall Initiative will arrest soil degradation, reduce poverty, conserve biodiversity, and increase land productivity in more than 25 countries. Others hope the project will create millions of jobs, promote ecotourism, alleviate the food crisis, and even introduce new fishing and livestock-breeding industries.

Who would have thought a wall of trees could have such a big impact?

People...

Plant an Olive Tree...

It is estimated that since September 2000 the Israelis have uprooted almost 400,000 Palestinian olive trees. Since the building of the wall this number has grown drastically as orchard after orchard is cleared, or farmers are left cut off from their land.

Olive trees and their harvest are vital to the economy and are a symbol of the Palestinian heritage and identity. Many farmers have been left destitute by the loss of their only source of income and this has had a knock-on effect on labourers and other parts of the economy.

Recognising this need, the willingness of people around the world to help the Palestinians and the real difference that could be made, Muslim Hands launched our olive tree plantation scheme in 2003.

The idea is simple: for only £10 you can pay for an olive tree to be planted inPalestine in your or a loved one's name. We will send you a Certificate of Plantation (see above), making this an ideal gift. Moreover, together we can make a real difference to the lives of thousands of Palestinians. Since the scheme was launched we have planted well over 35,000 trees and restored the livelihoods of hundreds of people.

Olive trees are of course also an excellent form of sadaqa jaria (continuous charity) and will be a source of reward for as long as individuals or the community benefit.
